A bird’s eye view of the Gundagai Visitor Information Centre site where demolition of the existing VIC has been completed in readiness for the new refurbishment.

The refurbishment and renovations currently being undertaken at the Gundagai Visitor Information Centre (VIC) are coming along with most of the demolition work being completed in the last week. The council’s contractors, Dalski Constructions & Infrastructure, have moved onto the replacement of roof truces and internal structures in preparation for the fit out.

When completed, the newly refurbished VIC will see a new changing places toilet facility installed. Changing places toilets are specialised toilet facilities that provide suitable equipment and space for people with complex disabilities who need assistance. They are different from standard accessible toilets, which may not meet the needs of some people with high support needs. Changing places toilets enable people with complex disabilities to participate in community life without worrying about finding a suitable toilet.

The VIC will also be upgraded to meet modern day needs, expanding the existing display areas for visitors to enjoy the range of local products on sale. The room housing Gundagai’s famous Rusconi’s Marble Masterpiece will also be modernised.  Electrical and plumbing upgrades along with new offices will see the VIC set for the future demands of increasing visitor numbers to the area. Gundagai VIC staff have relocated to the library toolbox room to allow continued operations to the public, where wine sales have now recommenced after a short hiatus.

The $450,000 project has been funded by the State Government’s Stronger Country Community Fund Round 5 and the New Council Implementation Stronger Community Fund. Meanwhile, the new Carberry Park amenities block is also being constructed during the same period. The lift and change accessible bathroom is well underway as part of this project, with the frames erected and trusses being installed.
