Championship 4’s Semi Final In a match played last Thursday night, James “Happy” Bourke, Tommy French, John “Mitch” Peterson and Murray Naughton played brilliant bowls to move into the final after a dominant 23-10 victory over Sharon Armstrong, Carol Dowell, Judy Pigram and Mick Pigram. The Armstrong led quartet flew out of the blocks to lead 7-3 after seven ends only to drop 9 shots on the following four ends to trail 12-7 at the end of the eleventh end.  Bourke’s side then won five of the next seven ends to explode away to a match winning  22-9 lead after eighteen ends, then cruised to the line very easy winners. “Happy’s” team will now play Joe Bond, Mike Houstein, Grant Duncan and Wayne Carthew in the final, which should be a spectacular match to watch. 2024 Bing Walder Shield: Expressions of interest are called for male bowlers interested in representing Southern Highlands in the Bing Walder Shield, to be played at the Young Bowling Club on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April 2024. Zone 8 will provide lunches both days and $50 per player subsidy towards accommodation. Open to all graded pennant players, although preference will be given to grade 4 or higher. With Club Tumut the only grade 4 in the area, grades 5, 6, and 7 will be considered. Players interested in player in the Bing Walder Shield are to have their names to club selectors on or before Friday February 9, 2024, so names can be forwarded to Rick McAlister, thank you. Liz Polsen and Mary McCormick defeated Bronwyn Naughton and Leonie Maynard 22-18.   Triples: Jess Wright, Alarna Elliott and Ina Ford (playing two bowls for each team) defeated Judy Moore, Judy Pigram and Ina Ford 14-11. Di Brennan, Helen Lott and Pam Watling defeated Helen Pearce, Joan Dunn and Jann Brooke 20-7.
